Starting out as a scientist, it made perfect sense that wine would call my name. Wine is science, geology and cultural anthropology- you want to study the world- look at wine. I had grown up in a family where homemade hooch was served with dinner and although I appreciated the enthusiasm and the effort, I knew there was a lot more to wine and wanted to take it to the next level. Taking wine courses and pursuing my own interest in food and wine pairing, I became a wine agent and was lucky to work with passionate, knowledgeable people. They say scent is the most powerful sense for evoking memory and one night at a Barolo tasting, the wines classic notes of tar and roses combined with the pungent scent of truffles that were being served with dinner created a complex, earthy blend that was profoundly powerful and comforting. It was an epiphany; I wanted to share this passion with others. I started Ruby Red Vino and a family at the same time and now have Ruby (3) and Phoenix (1).
