Four Fantastic Reds
Renegade Wine Co. Horse Heaven Hills, 2008 Red Wine
Renegade is exactly the kind of fun lovin’ criminal that will liven up your holiday parties and gift giving. 100% merlot, Renegade is an upfront, well-structured wine. Deep purple in colour, the bouquet is true to the palate. Currants, vanilla, plums, a hint of minerality and tobacco add harmony and balance. Renegade is a simple pleasure at a bargain price. Renegade Red will be delightful with grilled meats, roasted root vegetables, salty cheeses, charcuterie and of course, the big bird itself.
Domaine de Beaurenard 2009 Rouge, France
A beautiful Cote du Rhone from the outstanding Domaine de Beaurenard. Elegant, aromatic, and supple, the blend is mainly Grenache with Syrah, Mourvdre and Cinsault. Full bodied, classic style with cocoa, dark cherries, and fine tannins on the palate followed up by violets, earth and smoke on the nose. We love this wine and you will too. Pair it with Cassoulet, roasted and grilled meats, turkey, goose, duck and game, savoury tarts and of course charcuterie, friends and family- or save it for yourself!
Bran Caia Xmas Tre, 2006 Italy
A blend of three (Tre) grapes, Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet, the Bran Caia Xmas Tre is all about the festive season. Medium bodied with well integrated tannins, it tastes of cherries, raspberries and a hint of spice, with a bouquet of ripe berries, crushed raspberry leaves and a hint of leather. Made with attention and care, you won’t want to give this bottle away. It pairs perfectly with pasta in tomato sauce, white meats like fried and frilled pork, turkey, chicken, goose and duck, pizza and grilled vegetables. Go to Tuscany in your mind as you relax with a glass of Bran Caia Xmas Tre.
Punta Final Malbec, 2009 Argentina
It’s no secret that Argentina has been producing fantastic wines at unbelievably affordable prices. Deep, ruby red wine in a slick black package with spice, roasted meat, flowers, blackberries and savoury aromas on the bouquet, and ripe juicy berries with clean bright acidity on the palate. Punta Final is a solid Malbec at a great price. Pair with roasted or grilled turkey, lamb, goose, duck, beef, grilled vegetables, hard salty cheeses like Manchego, dried cured sausages, olives and tapas. This is your go-to wine: it puts the fun back in the holidays with generosity and good taste.
